Post-quantum cryptography is a new type of security designed to protect information against the potential threats posed by future quantum computers. Quantum computers are already on the verge of breaking the encryption systems we use today, like those that protect health, banking, emails, and personal data.
Traditional encryption relies on public key exchanges and private key derivation using mathematical calcuations that are hard for today's computers to solve. However, quantum computers could solve that match much faster, making current encryption vulnerable.
Perfect Forward Secrecy (PFS) is a security feature that ensures private data and conversations are protected, even if someone gains access to the encryption keys used in the past.
For example, when you send a file or make a payment, a PFS protocol performs a unique encryption key exchange for each transaction, which protects the data from being accessed even if a prior transaction was compromised.
